About Puerto Calero
Puerto Calero is a recreational port on the island of Lanzarote, only 10 kilometres from Lanzarote airport and 20km from the island's capital Arrecife. An oasis of peace and tranquillity in an area that is noted for its great natural beauty because of its volcanic origins and situation on the south west coast of lanzarote.
That all together will make your stay an unforgettable experience. Puerto Calero is also notable for the careful attention paid to its security and cleanliness.
History and Development
Puerto Calero was dreamed up by a developer named José Calero, as an exclusive retreat to provide a luxury marina, along with restaurants, bars, shops and a large residential development for accommodation on the island of lanzarote.
Construction of the Marina began in 1986, which also saw the first wave of luxury villas built as well.
Because of the initial success, a decision was made in 1997 to double its capacity. In just two years the work had been completed with 420 Berths for boats of between 8 and 75 metres.
During this time development had continued on the infrastructure of Puerto Calero in Lanzarote, with shops, apartments and offices being built. Now Puerto Calero has managed to place itself among the most modern and exclusive ports in all of Spain.
Puerto Calero is certainly a part of Lanzarote that should not be missed.
Things To Do
The Marina is a great place to visit, to look at the fabulous boats, luxury boutiques and generally soak up a bit of the luxury atmosphere that permeates the whole place. You can certainly spend a few hours sat in one of the cafes or restaurants that overlook the marina without even realizing how long you have been there.
If you would like to do more than just sit around, Puerto Calero is the base for a large amount of water based activites, such as the Catlanza, for catamaran trips to nearby beaches, Submarine excursions and a variety of sport-fishing boats which allow you to test out your skill at landing Blue-fin Tuna and even Marlin in some of the best waters you can find.
If you prefer being in the water rather than on it, there are a choice of dive schools operating out of the Marina who offer instruction and guided dives from beginner through to advanced levels.
There is a vast selection of shops available in Puerto Calero, where you will find some very nice luxury boutiques, offering popular designer products, alongside souvenir shops which are more upmarket than in the other resorts of Lanzarote.
Puerto Calero is much more than a marina, there are a wide selection of cafés, bars and restaurants along the waterfront and its a beautiful place to sit and enjoy the wide selection of food on offer, including Spanish, Italian, Chinese, Indian, Japanese and many more.
